General description

2'-Deoxy-L-cytidine is a nucleoside that is naturally found in the cells of E. coli K-12. It is an antioxidant compound that prevents lipid peroxidation and scavenges free radicals, which are generated by certain chemical reactions. 2'-Deoxy-L-cytidine has been shown to have antiviral potency in vitro, but its antiviral activity has not been evaluated in vivo. This compound also inhibits the growth of bacteria that are resistant to tetracycline, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Helicobacter pylori. 2'-Deoxy-L-cytidine may cause drug interactions with other medications because it is metabolized by the CYP450 system and inhibits the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes.

Torcitabine (2'-Deoxy-L-cytidine) is an antiviral agent. Torcitabine has the potential for chronic hepatitis B virus infection treatment.
